Visiting Parents

My parents are visiting which is a wonderful thing because I miss them often and love to see them. Something which is noticeably different than most of my friends and colleagues relationship with their parents I suppose. They are only here for about 5 days, which feels much too short.

Last night we went to see Rango at the dollar theater. My dad loved it, my mom didn't really. I like it except for hating movies where the main character lies to everyone else. That is part of my main annoyance with movies like Ever After as well. The tension about when everyone will find out and what their reaction will be just isn't the fun kind of tension for me. One of the fun things about the movie was that it seemed to play on a lot of other movies - the Star Wars scene is obvious, with the "Flight of the Valkyries" music and all - including an old classic, Chinatown about droughts and someone dumping water in the desert and one of the characters drowning in the desert... A fun evening, anyway.

But then this morning I got up and found my mom had done a lot of the dishes, scrubbed the stove and was scrubbing the floor. It was wonderful, it needed to be done... but now I feel guilty, like I'm not being a very good hostess. I suppose it is nice to not have to do it myself, but I don't want to take advantage of her, either. It felt nice to be taken care of, though.
